Fuel Oil Sampling & Analysis and Spill Prevention Plans

When the next black out occurs, can you count on your generators functioning properly? Poor oil quality can result in diesel engine outage when they are most needed. Minimize the risk of failure under load due to fuel quality problems by relying on Ambient to monitor your fuel oil supply.

Sediment, sludge and water migrate to the tank bottom near the suction lines. Even a delivery of new fuel can cause problems by stirring up existing sludge that can be pulled into the suction lines and filters, shutting down the generator.

To minimize the risk of fuel quality problems, building and facility managers should have main and day tank fuels sampled, particularly at the tank bottoms, for comparison to ASTM or engine manufacturers’ specifications. Analysis of oil filter media also provides insight into operating conditions.
